Partner

Amelia W. May works in the firm’s civil division, where she handles family law, employment law, and civil litigation matters. Prior to returning to May Law, LLP (where she served as a clerk throughout law school), Ms. May spent several years in solo practice focusing on a range of transactional matters including business and employment issues, wills, trusts, and estate planning. She also has prior experience representing clients in personal injury matters.

Ms. May’s range of experience involving numerous practice areas is invaluable to her clients, as complex litigation matters often cross multiple disciplines. She is able to navigate such matters with ease and achieve the best possible results for her clients.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Amelia May lived in Southern France throughout her youth and went on to study French and History at The College of William and Mary. After receiving her MA in French from Penn State University, Ms. May worked briefly in Paris, then pursued her law degree at night at George Mason University School of Law while working full-time. Her work at an international non-profit organization frequently took her to French-speaking Africa, where she assisted in election observation, democracy-building and women’s political initiatives.

Amelia W. May resides in Lake Ridge, Virginia, with her husband and law partner, Mike, and three children. She has served as an appointee to her county’s Board of Social Services in 2016 and represented the Occoquan District as a member of Prince William County’s “Strategic Planning Committee.” She volunteered for many years as a board member and officer of SAVAS (Sexual Assault Victims Advocacy Services), and recently joined the board of Directors of ACTS (Action in the Community Through Service), her community’s preeminent charitable organization. Finally, Ms. May continues as an officer of Prince William County’s Arts Council Board of Directors, where she advocates for the community’s individual artists and member groups.
